FALL RECIPE: Spiced Hot Apple Juice

Spiced Hot Apple Juice – a delicious and sweet alternative to the apple cider version which contains alcohol. This is a family friendly recipe that can be shared with adults and children. The wonderful aromatic spices combined with the sweet and warm apple juice provide the perfect family beverage for a cool fall or winter evening next to the fire.

The cedar syrup adds a tasty flavour combination with the spices in the recipe – as well as an additional immune boost, especially if the syrup contains propolis or rose hip.

According to scientists from Yekaterinberg, Cedar syrup increases the human body’s resistance to bacterial and viral infections, strengthens the immune system and stabilises the nervous system. Cinnamon is known for its anti inflammatory, antioxidant and antimicrobial properties, allspice for its anti inflammatory, antioxidant and antiviral properties, and lastly, cloves for their anti inflammatory and anti bacterial properties. In other words – a healing power house of ingredients for the change of season.

  • Small pinch nutmeg
  • 1/2 tsp allspice
  • 1 teaspoon whole cloves
  • 1/2 to 1 orange
  • 2-3 cinnamon sticks

  • In pot over medium heat, add the apple juice. Stir in the allspice, nutmeg and cinnamon and bring to a mild boil.
  • Slice the orange up and stick the cloves into the skin of the orange slices
  • Add the orange slices with cloves into the apple juice mixture to simmer. Cover with a lid and allow to simmer for 15 minutes
  • Pour out into mugs and add Cedar Syrup to taste

Top tip: The best flavour comes from freshly pressed apple juice with no preservatives – you can use whichever apple juice is available to you, but the freshly pressed one provides the richest flavour.
